Field Leader – Winter Leadership courses in February 2016

Sunday, February 28, 2016 in Chester Basin

A pre-requisite for taking this module is Field Leader – Hiking certification. This nationally recognized course will provide participants with Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) training in Field Leader – Winter Leadership and allow the Field Leader to lead in low-risk winter environments as defined by the OCC. The course is $50 for non-Hike NS members and $40 for paid Hike NS members. It is delivered by OCC certified instructors and offered through Hike Nova Scotia in partnership with the NS Chapter of the OCC and supported by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness For more information, go here.

Enjoy Fall’s Bounty with Guided Hikes

Fall in Nova Scotia often entices people to get out and enjoy the brisk air and beautiful colours. They can do so by taking part in the Fall Guided Hike Series. Hike Nova Scotia and 17 host organizations across the province have partnered up to offer the 2015 Fall Guided Hike series in September, October and November. Leave No Trace Summer Workshops

LNTWorkshops-2015-graphicLeave No Trace Canada has partnered with Hike Nova Scotia to promote Leave No Trace Principles and host a Summer Educator, who will help raise awareness about Leave No Trace Principles through delivering workshops to groups in Halifax and beyond. Workshops will be offered from mid-July to mid-August, 2015. Tailored for groups of various ages and interests, workshops will cover the seven Leave No Trace Principles that encourage low-impact use of our natural environment. A small fee or honourarium may be required depending upon workshop location and number of participants.

Hike NS AGM & Hikes: June 27 in Cornwallis

Folks take part in a foggy hike at Gaff Point on the South Shore after last year’s Hike NS AGM.

The Hike Nova Scotia Annual General Meeting will take place in Cornwallis, Annapolis County on Saturday June 27. Lunch will be provided (must RSVP) and there will be a hike before and after the AGM.
