Silent Auction: Hiking Summit 2016

Silent Auction: Hiking Summit 2016

SilentAuctionGraphic

This is Hike NS’s first silent auction. We offer it to expose our members and others to the many and varied hiking opportunities in our province and the diversity of engaged communities, organizations and businesses. It is also a fundraiser for Hike NS. The silent auction is part of the Hiking Summit, taking place April 29 to May 1 in Digby, with the silent auction taking place on April 30. So please take part in the silent auction online and in person with a spirit of giving and adventure!

If at any time someone wants to pay the full price (the value of the item, not the minimum bid) for an item before April 18, 2016 and we receive an E-transfer for the funds, you can own that item. Please contact us if you’re interested. We will still showcase that item at the Hiking Summit and in the silent auction booklet but will clearly indicate that it is sold. This gives those a chance to buy in advance should they be unable to attend the Hiking Summit.

The opening bid prices are listed and you can bid in $5.00 increments at the silent auction. In all cases there is no cash value for the gift certificates.

We would like to thank all the businesses, organizations and people who have donated to the silent auction. Hike NS appreciates their generosity, enthusiasm and interest.

Stamp22. Parks Canada 100th Anniversary Stamp Collector’s Package

Value: $20
Opening Bid: $8
Donated by: Debra Ryan, Past President, Hike NS

Canada Post created a stamp featuring a hiker in 2011 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada. This includes a full stamp package of 10 plus a first-day issue stamped envelope, which is a collector’s item for many stamp collectors and hiking enthusiasts. Since most Canadians relate to their national parks and historic sites in terms of their memories of vacation spent walking, camping, exploring and spending time appreciating nature, the design chosen for the Parks Canada 100th anniversary stamp offers a retro approach. Tim Nokes designer: “The style of illustration was inspired by the CPR travel posters of the 1920s and 30s, with their bold vibrant colors and strong compositional elements. I added a rough-hewn border edge to project a sense of freedom; the importance of the park extends beyond the physical boundary…also, it was important to me that parks be seen as a place of self-discovery, education and powerful inspiration from nature.” Also included in the package is a funky note pad “Log On” outdoor theme.

Donated by: Jacqueline and Bill Amirault, Digby

This fitness package includes: Bally Foam Roller, Bally Foam Exercise Mat and Bally 55-cm Fitness Ball. Jacqueline and Bill Amirault’s favorite hiking spot in the Digby Area: “We would have to say our favorite hiking spot in our area is the Acacia Valley Extension Trail located on the Mill Road a mere 8 km from our house. It is a gem for us, as seniors. A wooded four season trail, each with its unique seasonal beauty. The beginning of the trail follows a brook, which, of its own, is a photographer’s paradise. Soothing cascades of water after a rain, during the spring melt, and providing awesome ice formations in winter. The trail is not physically demanding and it can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, or the longer section is there for those who wish to go the entire length. We shared the beauty of this trail with a deer on our last hike!”
